I apologize for being late with today’s Advent post, and tomorrow’s will be posted before lunch, but one of our sons got to come home yesterday and then, on top of that blessing, we got to have a visit with our 2 yr old grandson! His other grandparents, from another state, traveled to bring him to our home for the first time yesterday. I cooked a late lunch for us, and then we took him to see the Zoo Lights at our local zoo. It was our first outing with him and well, that was my first priority. It was such a wonderful day of making memories. We miss our son so much, and yesterday was bittersweet and beyond precious, all at the same time. I know some of you will understand. Pray for us as we have our first Christmas since his death, and it is not easy. On a good note, we were surprised with all of our other kids being able to be here for Christmas!!
While this is a celebratory time with them being here, we want to be most aware of the Light of the World that came and why we celebrate Christmas.
Here is today’s Gospel Message of Light:
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.
Isaiah 60:1, 19
Arise, shine, for your light has come,and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you….
The sun shall be no more your light by day,nor for brightness shall the moon
give you light;
but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.
But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.
“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to his people
in the forgiveness of their sins,
because of the tender mercy of our God,
whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
“I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.”
1 John 1:5-9
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.
Father, Keep the Light of Your Son ever before us, reveal the darkness of sin in our lives, and turn our hearts away from the darkness and toward Your Light. Amen
